Whenever
we visited Shieldaig in the past, there was always a sense
of restored well being as soon as we arrived long before
we had thoughts of living here. This is a place which reaches
deep inside, that you could spend a lifetime searching for
.and here it is, in the UK.
It
is captured by the sounds of waves breaking on the shore;
the cry of the oyster catchers & seagulls; the smell of
really clean air and the sea. Feel the wind blow through your
hair; experience a sense of timelessness amidst ancient rocks.
You can feel awestruck by the scale of the landscape and seem
very small in an isolated wild place.
It
is a place to reflect and contemplate whilst being active
or still; to take time out of hectic lifestyles and see life
from a different perspective. You do need to leave the car
behind for a while and go out into the wilderness to fully
appreciate the nature of where you are.
Highland
folk are generally very friendly and helpful. There is a strong
sense of community and culture especially in the smaller villages.
Everyone knows everyone in these parts rather than being anonymous
in a city.
Environmental
considerations seem clearer here and you can experience a
real connection with raw nature. Witness the power of the
wind and the sea. Experience the really clean air and pure
rain. Here the water is fresh from the mountains and not recycled
city water; following heavy rain our water looks and tastes
of peat. Many communities have hydroelectric schemes feeding
into the national grid.
