100 years or more ago most people’s lives were much ‘greener’, particularly if they lived in a rural environment, in harmony with their surroundings. Becoming un-environmentally friendly has crept up on most of us and it is very easy to sit back and do nothing. But what will life be like for future generations if we continue to live unsustainably now?
We have both had pale green inclinations for most of our lives, working at or near home, enjoying simple natural pursuits such as walking or growing fruit & vegetables. Living in such an un-spoilt, natural environment has brought into focus many of the ‘green’ issues that face our world today. Hopefully our attempts are a stronger shade of green now!
Many aspects of Green Tourism are integral to who we are & how we live, so working towards a Green Tourism award seemed a natural extension and a way of applying their principles (both compulsory & optional) to our business. It has provided a structured and integrated approach thus makes the rather large and complex subject a bit more manageable.
Being more environmentally aware does not mean we compromise on comfort or the 4 star quality of our accommodation, very often buying better quality means products last longer.
We are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, minimizing our impact on the environment and encouraging our guests to do the same. For those at the beginning of their environmental journey perhaps there are a few ideas you can take home and implement. Sometimes guests are further along that journey than we are and we can learn from them - there is always room for improvement in an imperfect world.
