Beinn
Damh walk
Check
weather forecast. Packed Lunch? Discuss transport.
Head
up the A896 towards Torridon. Just by the Torridon road junction
on the left, there is an informative National Trust hut worth
dropping into. At the end of the concrete track there is a
deer museum and captive deer along with an enclosed bird watching
hide overlooking the top of Upper Loch Torridon.
Bienn
Damph walk (4-5 hours)
This
walk starts the Shieldaig side of the Torridon Inn / Hotel.
There is parking by the road bridge. The entrance is hidden
amongst the rhododendrons with steps leading up a well made
path. The track goes up through the Caledonian Pines, then
up above the tree line. At this height there is a waterfall
to the left
which you can hear, and a little path for a good photo shot.
For
some this may be far enough, in which case, turn back &
visit the Torridon Inn for refreshment (seasonal opening).
Or
continue up the hill. The section to the saddle gets quite
steep, rough & wet at the top. It is worth walking straight
over the saddle to see the views over Loch Damph and beyond.
A great spot for lunch. From here you can go on up to your
left or right. The peak to your left is a relatively easy
Munro. The way back down is the way you went up.
Alternative
For
a gentler walk, park alongside the main road, on the left,
by the beach at the head of Upper Loch Torridon, just after
the Annat village sign. There is a walk signposted on the
right which is a linear path, close to the house built into
the hill. Go as far as you want & return the same way.
You get great views of Glen Torridon without such hard uphill
slog.
