Drive to Lochcarron, Strome castle, Strathcarron, Attadale and Eilean Donan Castle.
Head down to Lochcarron. For any art lovers there are some artist’s studios at Achintraid, just before Kishorn and the seafood bar.
Shortly after entry to Lochcarron and the 30mph signs, there is a right turn signposted to Strome castle. Take this and about 3 miles along the Lochcarron weavers building is on the left. Most days there is a weaver working in the back. On sale is a wide variety of tweed and tartan fabrics and clothing.
It is worth going all the way to the end of this road on a fine day for the views across to Skye and the Cullins from the ruin of Strome castle which you can wander around. There are some great walks around the bays along this piece of coastline.
From Lochcarron head towards Strathcarron. You will pass the golf course which is interesting and challenging! There is a great tea room which serves light refreshments and evening meals – all with a fantastic view over the tidal loch.
Cross the railway line and carry on for a short way until you come to the Carron restaurant and pottery. They are both worth a stop for (closed Sundays). Quite often you can view the potter working who uses clay from the river Carron and ash from wood burned at Attadale gardens.
Next stop 1 ½ miles on is Attadale Gardens if you appreciate plants and horticulture. There are also many walks to be done from here.
Continue on the drive along the A890 – a very scenic road until eventually you meet the A87. Turn left here towards Dornie. After a couple of miles you will pass 914 which is a great shop for any outdoor clothing or equipment. A little further on is Eilean Donan castle – one of the most photographed castles in Scotland.
Within striking distance – (in the opposite direction) is the Skye road bridge and Plockton. |
